VEGAN - VEGETARIAN

_________________________________________________________

A vegan is different from a vegetarian. Vegetarianism evolved with religions and cultures over hundreds of years. Religions such as Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism all have strict rules regarding their food consumption, with all meat and eggs being strictly prohibited in many such religions, castes, and communities.

However vegetarianism does not exclude animal products like milk and products made from milk such as desserts, ghee, ice cream and chocolates. This has naturally led to the dependence on vegetables, fruits, herbs, and spices as their sources of dietary food and has resulted in the evolution of vegetarian recipes. Each caste, community, and individual household began creating their own variations of standard recipes and ways to cook food.

Vegetarianism has quickly spread in western countries such as the U.K., Europe and the U.S. However, the opposite is true in Eastern countries such India as people have become more aware of western meat dishes.

Donald Watson and Elsie Shringley started veganism and the Vegan Society in 1944. The Vegan Society excludes the consumption of all animal products as food; this includes milk along with all products made from milk such as chocolates, desserts, ice cream and ghee. Veganism also excludes the exploitation of animals, not only for food, but clothing as well.

In most recent years, with the awareness of the importance of food intake on one's health, along with the awareness of animal protection, Veganism has grown in popularity. Today, veganism still includes and embraces only vegetables, spices, herbs and fruits in diets. There are literally hundreds of recipes available for vegans; the internet has made it possible to easily access scores of them.

With the increasing all importance awareness of the role of food on one's health many people are giving personal due diligence to focus on healthy home cooking. They are now searching for those healthy recipes that were used in past generations.

Whether you are a vegan or a vegetarian, take some time and search the internet for the hundreds of free vegan and vegetarian recipes such as soups, salads, appetizers, how to make chili, desserts, main course meals and even mouth watering, healthy chocolate recipes. You owe it to your own personal health, not to mention the health of your family and loved ones. ~Ms.CiCi~
